The governor of the Erongo Region has called for stronger aviation safety measures and improved coordination among stakeholders to protect lives and support economic growth in the region.

Speaking at the two-day Coastal Aviation Safety Workshop held at Swakopmund, Nathalia |Goagoses said aviation plays a crucial role in supporting tourism, mining, fishing, logistics and maritime services.

|Goagoses stressed that the growth of coastal aviation must be matched by strict safety standards, including competent pilots, proper aircraft maintenance, effective flight planning and compliance with aviation regulations.

She also urged aviation operators, the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), local authorities and tourism stakeholders to turn the workshop's recommendations into practical actions with clear timelines.

She said aviation safety should be viewed as an investment in Erongo's long-term economic prosperity rather than an obstacle to growth.

|Goagoses called for aviation sectors that connect the region to opportunities beyond Namibia's borders.

" I therefore call upon the NCAA, aviation operators, local authorities, tourism stakeholders and relevant government institutions to translate the outcomes of this workshop into practical, measurable interventions. Let us identify the most pressing safety challenges, clarify institutional responsibilities and agree on realistic actions with clear timelines. Let us strengthen coordination between Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, address operational and infrastructure needs, and ensure that concerns affecting our communities and environment receive appropriate attention."

The town's Mayor Suamma Kautondokwa urged the delegates to use the workshop to identify challenges, share experiences and develop practical solutions to strengthen aviation safety and security.

"Aviation plays a vital role in making that movement possible. Whether it is a business traveller arriving in Walvis Bay, tourists experiencing the beauty of our coastline from above, or emergency services responding when time is critical, aviation remains an essential contributor to economic growth, public safety, and national development."
