A local shop in Rundu, Kavango East Region, donated food and merchandise to the Cocoma Primary School, located some 160 kilometres east of Rundu.

The donation follows a request by the school principal for assistance to the vulnerable children living in a deplorable hostel at the school.

The Kavango East Governor, Bonifastius Wakudumo, welcomed the donation on behalf of the beneficiaries and applauded the Payless Shop owner for her generosity.

The business, which opened in 2019, employs 12 locals.

Ndumba Moses, the Principal of Cocoma Primary School, commended the gesture and encouraged others to follow suit in support of other schools in similar situations.

In addition, the school principal indicated that the school needs a new hostel and more classrooms.

The school currently has five teachers and 176 learners, mostly from the marginalised community, of which 120 are in the hostel.

A few weeks ago, another local company, Beki-Kumata Fishing Company, donated N$500 thousand towards the construction of two classrooms and a storeroom at the school.
