The Ovaherero and Ovambanderu communities converged at Ozombu Zovindimba in Otjinene, Omaheke Region, over the weekend for an annual commemoration that promotes the spirit of unity as well as to share updates on the ongoing genocide discussions.
The Ozombu Zovindimba commemoration emanates from the 1904–1908 war between the German troops and the Ovaherero tribe.
It was at this place that General Lother Von Trotha issued the extermination order to eliminate the Ovaherero and Nama communities on sight.
The day has since become an annual commemoration to reflect on what has happened and discuss the way forward.
Other development activities are also discussed on this platform, on which various traditional activities are also being practised.
