The Ombetja Yehinga Organisation has launched a girls' soccer club at farm Uitkoms to keep young girls off the streets.

Most people, especially young girls, do not make it out of Uitkoms and the level of school dropouts is alarming.

They then often join others on the streets and indulge in alcohol and drug abuse, which in some instances can lead to pregnancy.

It is against this background that the Ombetja Yehinga Organisation (OYO) launched a soccer club to keep them busy.

"We want to eradicate the problem of alcohol and drug abuse. We want to make sure that no girl child has an unwanted pregnancy like it is now, and we want to make sure that those who have dropped out of school go back to school. Isn't it?" Cecelia Petrus, General Manager at the OYO Trust, said

First National Bank donated N$15 thousand for the girls' sportswear, including soccer boots and balls.

"We are grateful to have the opportunity to give assistance to young people in need. We believe that the sustainability of this programme will be assured and will help the youth achieve their goals," said the FNB representative, Josephat Kauta.

The Brave Gladiators' player, Memory Ndonga, motivated the upcoming footballers to take sports seriously. "I want to encourage girls to play football as next year I will take five of the players to come join the FA football association to show off their talent so our coach can see.
