192 houses were connected to electricity at Ombili Informal Settlement at Otjiwarongo through CENORED's peri-urban electrification project.

Phase six of the project is also underway at a cost of N$1,8 million.

Board Chairperson Moses Matjayi says investing in energy infrastructure is part of the National Development Plan's key drivers for economic and social growth.

"The communities in this area do not have the means to pay for connection to electrification and neither does the local authority, so the pressure is on CENORED to bring electricity services and thus leaves CENORED with a challenge to serve one of the core expectations of its shareholders and community with limited resources. The electrification of this informal settlement and locality represents CENORED's commitment to the objective of the national development agenda and social obligation to ensure that our people have access to electricity."

Matjayi also launched the company's customer service charter, detailing how it would provide services to customers and how the organisation operates.

Also speaking at the occasion was the Chairperson of the Otjozondjupa Regional Council, Marlayn Mbakera.

"I want to tell you, CENORED, that you are doing a great job. You are doing an excellent job in terms of service delivery. You are doing an excellent job in terms of how you conduct yourself and your employees in how they behave themselves on and off the premises of the workplace. You are doing a good job. I am confident that the electrification of this area will serve as a game changer with numerous social benefits."

Plans are now underway to connect more than 100 households in the Ombili Clinic Area by 2023.
