More than 42% of households in Namibia do not have toilets, while only 26% use private flush toilets connected to sewers.

This is contained in the 2019–2021 Namibia Census Mapping Basic Report, which was launched in Windhoek.

The report covered a wide range of activities, which include the characteristics of built-up structures, households, and housing conditions, as well as the agricultural activities of households and the main sources of energy that households use for cooking, heating, and lighting.

Dwelling units make up most of the structures in the country (60.8%), while improvised housing units are mostly found in urban areas (33.4%).

53.4% of households used firewood as the main source of energy for cooking, while 45.6% of households in Namibia used electricity as a source of energy for lighting; electricity from gas, generators, and wood were found to be the lowest.

The water supply points mapped were over 14,000, predominantly in rural areas (88%) compared to urban areas (11%).

35% of households use piped water outside for cooking.

More than 500,000 households were mapped, with the |Khomas Region recording the highest number at 90,000 households.

A total of 6,609 enumeration areas, which make up all EAs in Namibia, were visited.
