A total of N$1.2 million was raised for the COP27 conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

The conference will take place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, from November 6–18.

The funds, sponsored mostly by private and public-private entities, will go towards the set-up of the Namibian pavilion that will be displayed at the conference.

There will be different discussions on climate change and how Namibia is tackling the problem.

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism as well as the Environmental Investment Fund are facilitating the funds and delegations.

A Namibian delegation, both from the public and private sectors as well as non-governmental organisations, is expected to attend the conference aimed at achieving "stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations."

Namibia will chair the African Union Peace and Security Council for November 2022, and preparations for COP27 presentations are in full swing with messages focusing on peace, security, and climate change.

The sessions will present an opportunity for the PSC to contribute towards understanding the nexus between climate and security as well as provide solid input.
