||Kharas Governor Aletha Frederick has reminded heads of government agencies and the private sector representatives that the task to improve the lives of the region's inhabitants is everyone's responsibility.

The Governor hosted an appreciation dinner at Keetmanshoop to thank the role players for their support and celebrate their collaborative partnership.

"Even though the governor's office does not have a budget to foster any social developmental programmes, to improve the livelihoods of the citizens and is falling short of the expectations, the office is seen as a beacon of hope to address the needs and challenges of the citizens, subsequently we are still inundated with request  for student registration assistance, funeral assistance from  destitute families, people  who have nothing to eat, transport request, donation request for social programmes such as soup kitchens, daycare centres, and sports, and the list goes."

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila was the guest of honour at the dinner.

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila commended all institutions that provided support to the Office of the Governor in its effort to better the lives of all the region's citizens.

"The government plays an important role in optimizing the welfare initiatives of our people and through the implementation of the welfare programmes as we are aware of them, the support to vulnerable, elderly, orphan children, persons with disabilities, those affected by natural emergencies, it is important that these initiatives are supported by the private sector."

At the occasion, the governor also awarded government institutions, agencies and private sectors with certificates of appreciation for their support throughout the year.
