Mourners gathered at Farm Snip River in the ||Kharas Region to pay tribute to late Swapo Party liberation struggle stalwart Ida Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros during the official memorial service. 

Jimmy-!Ha-Eiros died on April 3 at the age of 79.

Delivering the message of President Nangolo Mbumba, Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila says the liberation struggle icon in her political journey encountered immense hardships, torture, and imprisonment at the hands of the colonial regime oppressors. 

Government increases water access in rural areas

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila handed over a borehole to the residents of Epembe Constituency's Ohamutwe-Tautende Village in the Ohangwena Region.

The project was funded by the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform to the tune of N$2.7 million.

The residents of Ohamutwe-Tautende and surrounding villages have been without clean water since independence and have depended on wells.

The government tried in vain to drill boreholes in the area several times, but the water was saline and the underground water quality was poor for shallow boreholes.

PM describes late President Geingob as a compassionate leader

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, in a moving address at Statehouse, paid tribute to the late President Geingob. 

Describing him as a compassionate leader who was dedicated to serving and uplifting others and an administrator, the public servants who diligently served the nation. 

In honouring President Geingob's memory, Kuugongelwa-Amadhila urged citizens to persist in their pursuit of unity and unwavering commitment to national endeavours, carrying forward the legacy of a leader who left an indelible mark on the nation.

Urban starvation on the rise at Walvis Bay

Walvis Bay Rural Constituency Councillor Florian Donatus says officials in his office frequently use their salaries to buy food for residents who are affected by urban starvation.

Donatus has thus pleaded with Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila to provide drought relief to those living in informal settlements in urban areas. The Prime Minister paid a courtesy call on the Erongo Governor and the rest of the regional political leadership at Swakopmund.

The Walvis Bay Rural Constituency Councillor revealed that starvation is a serious problem in his area.

Banks factor climate change risk

The Chairperson of the Global Central Bank Forum says climate change is negatively affecting the role of central banks, and there is a need for the banks to include that risk in their models.

Dr. Sabine Mauderer believes this will ensure price and financial stability, which are crucial in delivering economic growth and prosperity for countries. Dr. Mauderer was among the speakers at the 57th SADC Committee of Central Bank Governors meeting, held in Swakopmund.

Government is prepared for the imminent drought - Kuugongelwa-Amadhila

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila says the government is prepared for the imminent drought due to the poor rainfall received this rainy season. 

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said this in response to an urgent oral question posed by the official opposition leader, McHenry Venaani, who asked how prepared the government is for the impending drought.

Venaani pointed out that, based on the weather patterns seen so far, Namibia is headed for a drought.

Central Procurement Board of Namibia to pronounce itself on N$650 million health tender

The Central Procurement Board of Namibia (CPBN) says it will soon pronounce itself on the controversial health tender, for which more than N$650 million was awarded to one company.

Should the board's decision be upheld, Amnics Trading, owned by businessman Shapwa Kanyama, will package condoms at a cost of more than $100 million.

The awarding of the multi-million dollar tender shocked the nation and sent the community into a social media frenzy.
