President Hage Geingob and seven other Swapo Party heavyweights now join the list of permanent members on the Central Committee, including former presidents Sam Nujoma and Hifikepunye Pohamba.

The Swapo Party made the appointment following Sunday's deliberations during the elective congress.

Other permanent members are Nangolo Mbumba, Calle Schlettwein, Asser Kapere, Dr Albert Kawana and Jerry Ekandjo.

Party's veterans Charles Namoloh, Nahas Angula, Helmut Angula, and Doreen Sioka are now also permanent members.

Permanent members however serve on a non-voting basis.

Swapo Party spokesperson Hilma Nicanor told nbc news that the role of permanent members is considered - based on their wealth of experience and to give input based on party interest
