The security cluster in the Zambezi Region has embarked on a joint operation for the festive season to maintain law and order in the region.

The operation is an initiative of the office of the Governor, Alufea Sampofu.
  
The joint operation will focus on reducing road accidents as well as the movement of cargo.
  
Parties to the joint operation are the Police, NDF, Police Special Reserve, Immigration and Customs, Fisheries, and Roads Authorities.

NamPol's Regional Commander for the Zambezi Region, Commissioner Andreas Shililo, advised drivers to abide by the rules and regulations of the country.

"Our task now is to make sure that people are not overloading, that people are not driving while under the influence of alcohol, and they have to make sure that they maintain and obey all the road rules, the rules of the road."

The Governor's Representative, Ivan Kabunga, reminded the visitors to be on good behavior and adhere to traffic rules and regulations.

"Let us work together with our uniformed personnel to enjoy our holiday season. Let us not bring things that are not necessary to be carried in cars because they will be here where they will be searching 24 hours a day from today until January 16. Whoever passes here will be checked." 

The operation, which commenced on Monday, will run until January 16.
