Epupa Constituency Councilor Kuuoko Tjimutambo has reiterated his position over the construction of a hydroelectric dam at Epupa, saying the marginalized community will be negatively affected.

Tjimutambo confronted a stakeholders conference on the Baynes Hydropower Project that took place in Swakopmund, arguing that the construction of an electricity plant is all well and good, but the designated site is considered an ancestral burial ground.

If the community is to be moved, he suggests that they be resettled on government farms.

Director in the Ministry of Mines and Energy, John Titus, says Namibia has to reduce its electricity imports by about 60% from neighboring countries and generate its own power.

Epupa Falls is a series of large waterfalls formed by the Cunene River on the border of Angola and Namibia, in the Kunene Region.
