The Erongo Region recorded a 15% increase in road crashes and a 6% decrease in fatalities from January to November this year.

This was revealed by Police Regional Commander, Nickolas Kupembona, during the official opening of the Swakopmund roadblock for the festive season.

Kupembona says that it is evident that during the festive seasons, the national roads become a cause of concern to the nation as a result of the road accidents that tend to increase during this time of the year.

According to statistics shared by Kupembona, last year the number of crashes on the road amounted to 280, while this year it increased by 295 and road fatalities declined from 40 to 34.

All the roads leading to the Namibian coast, he says, will once again be extremely busy and congested; therefore, road users must be cautious and make wise decisions on the road.

He says the Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force has already given a directive for the deployment of more traffic law enforcement officers on the national roads.
