Bank Windhoek, through its Apple Project, has donated N$2 million to the Cancer Association of Namibia.

The project has to date raised N$33.9 million in support of cancer patients since its inception.

Through the Cancer Association of Namibia's National Cancer Outreach programme - a total of 823 men were screened nationally in 2022, with 90 requiring urgent referrals.

3064 women were screened, 453 of whom were recommended for further breast or cervical investigation.

The Cancer Association of Namibia CEO,  Rolph Hansen says they collaborated with numerous partners to create a robust, state-of-the-art center for patients in Windhoek to focus on post-surgery, among other services offered.

The Ministry of Health and Social Services' Acting Executive Director, Jeremia Nghipundjwa says the National Strategy for Cervical Cancer Prevention will build on existing interventions meant to lower the risk of cervical cancer, for inclusion in the Namibia Non-Communicable Disease Strategic Plan.

With that achieved, Namibia is confident it can meet its 90-70-90 targets by 2030.

He appealed for broad support for the Cervical Cancer Elimination Strategy - which envisions a society where no woman has to die from preventable disease.

The ministry has taken the lead in creating cancer awareness - promoting healthy lifestyles and early detection, and by providing adequate medical treatment for cancer patients.

"The Ministry of Health and Social Services believes that when women are healthy, families and communities are strong. We will not rest until all women and their families-no matter where they live-can access healthcare services they need to pursue happy and productive lives."

Bank Windhoek Executive Officer in Marketing and Corporate Communication, Jacquiline Pack, commended all who have and continue to play a role in the battle against cancer.
