The Regional and Local Authority Councils have been warned against abuse of public funds and power as well as tribalism, victimization, and intimidation.

This was said by Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Nathalia |Goagoses during the opening of the induction course for local authority councillors and management cadres at Swakopmund.

|Goagoses said that councillors allegedly give each other land at the expense of the community.

She further says that officials are demoted or not assigned any responsibilities for their position just because some councillors do not like them.

Continuous threats of suspension or contracts not being renewed leads to low morale and a lack of productivity, she said.

"I am highlighting these issues so that we start a new page and with the new young blood of Councillors at both Regional and Local Authorities let us make these irregularities things of the past, and work within the legal framework that will be taught by the various facilitators during this workshop."

She again reiterated the call on the council members to put their political differences aside when in meetings for the benefit of the Namibian people.

|Goagoses also appealed to the councils to redouble their efforts towards the realization of the national agenda, that of bringing prosperity to the people.
