Informal Settlement Upgrading Pilot Project to deliver 113 new houses

The Informal Settlement Upgrading Affordable Housing Pilot Project is about to reduce the housing backlog by 113 houses as construction begins.

The houses will be constructed in Windhoek's Greenwell Matongo Extension 4.

The late President Hage Geingob once said that the living conditions in the informal settlements should be declared a national humanitarian crisis. 

The Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Evelyn !Nawases-Taeyele, reminded those in attendance of his words. 

Okahandja Municipality unveils five-year strategic plan

In an effort to improve the lives of Okahandja residents, the town's municipality has launched a five-year strategic plan.

The strategic plan aims to provide basic and affordable service to residents, and accelerate land and housing delivery as well as water provision to the residents. 

The plan includes granting 5,000 families security of tenure, while 705 families will receive erven.

In addition, it will also bring infrastructure and institutional development.

Regional and Local Authority Councils warned against abuse of public funds and power

The Regional and Local Authority Councils have been warned against abuse of public funds and power as well as tribalism, victimization, and intimidation. 

This was said by Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Nathalia |Goagoses during the opening of the induction course for local authority councillors and management cadres at Swakopmund.
 
|Goagoses said that councillors allegedly give each other land at the expense of the community.

White Flag regiment celebrates Chief Wilhelm Zeraeua's bravery

The White Flag regiment celebrated the bravery of Chief Wilhelm Zeraeua against the German Colonial occupation during the 19th century at Omaruru over the weekend.

The Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Natalia |Goagoses, says the heroic deeds of Zeraeua were an immense effort of early colonial resistance from the motherland. 

The 69th historic annual event is an ongoing traditional custom to educate the younger generation on the bitter struggle Namibian people endured to attain the freedom enjoyed today.
