The Namibia Wildlife Resorts has forked-out N$16 million to upgrade eight of its tourist attraction sites mainly within the lucrative Etosha National Park.

The refurbishments come amid historic widely publicized images on social media depicting dysfunctional ablution facilities, dry waterholes, and termites infestation, particularly at its Dolomite resort.

The NWR's Communications Manager, Nelson Ashipala informed the nbc News crew during a fact-finding visit to such resorts, that majority of the resorts were built during the colonial era and thus costly to upgrade and maintain resulting in the company being inundated with complaints by visitors.

He says resorts such as Onkoshi, Okaukuejo, Waterberg, Ai Ais, and Sossus Dune, will all have a facelift before the peak season for tourists by June 2023.

Ashipala, also urged visitors to approach resort managers, if they detect any problems, and avoid social media platforms, to expedite a reaction to rectify such issues.

Meanwhile, Onkoshi Resort Manager, Coster Shakwa, says with the upgrades of the resort, he anticipates an influx of tourists and a surge in revenue.

A frequent traveller to Namibia and U.S citizen, Christopher Bugbee expressed joy with the upgrades saying it will restore Etosha National Park to its former glory days as a flagship tourist site.

The NWR has also appointed a roaming maintenance expert within its workforce to keep a watchful eye on all resorts and maintain their upkeep.
