The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (nbc) says it is aware of the non-availability of radio and television coverage on Impalila Island and surrounding areas.

The nbc was responding to Information and Communication Technology Minister Dr Peya Mushelenga's dissatisfaction with the lack of broadcasting services on Impalila Island.

The national broadcaster says the project was stopped due to the non-availability of funds, which prevented the corporation from completing numerous capital projects and infrastructure projects, including the erection of a tower on Impalila Island.

According to the nbc, new power transmitter sites were to be built as part of the DTT migration project master plan in Onesi, Eenhana, Omuthiya, and the Impalila Island to provide coverage in underserved yet densely populated areas.

Implementation was, however, never finalized, although civil works at some sites have commenced.

Accordingly, construction was suspended due to limited funds.

However, nbc Management has of late noted the positive movement in the allocation of the capital budget, expressing hope that once more money is available, the suspended DDT project can resume.
