A police inspector in the Omaheke Region, Fina Sakajengenga, is calling on members of the public to avoid taking large amounts of cash along when shopping over the holiday season.
Inspector Sakajengenga shared some advice for holiday goers planning to visit various spots around Gobabis over the festive season.
Inspector Sakajangenga warns that criminal activities usually pick up during the festive season.
As a result, residents and the police must increase their efforts to combat criminal activity.
Another area of concern, the inspector says, is alcohol abuse and theft. "People who own bakkies are experiencing theft out of motor vehicles. We are encouraging these drivers to have someone look after their valuables whenever they purchase items. Also, the motorist should not leave items such as cell phones, laptops, and cameras on the seat of the car as this attracts the attention of criminals."
She says police will conduct street patrols over the holiday season.
