With the holiday season in full swing, animals are often left locked up with no one to take care of them.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) aims to protect and prevent cruelty to animals, and it is a safe haven for many homeless animals and an adoption centre.

There is a saying that goes: "A dog is man's best friend," which sometimes during the holiday season does not carry much value as animals are left unattended. Some would escape in search of food and company.

It is against this background that the SPCA is calling on all animal owners who are traveling to find a trustworthy person to care for their animals while they are away.

They can also make arrangements with the SPCA in advance to be accommodated in its boarding facilities.

As the year comes to a close and everyone looks forward to celebrating New Year's Eve with fireworks, there are some animals who dislike fireworks because they can drive them insane, especially dogs.

Animals can run away, attack people out of fear and anxiety, or become traumatized.

Director of Operations at the SPCA, Sylvia Breitenstein, says that through education, she believes that people can collectively work towards the prevention of animal cruelty and foster compassion for all animals.

The public is urged to contact the SPCA for any form of cruelty towards animals.

Many people get dogs both for the love that they give and because they are natural guardians of their home and family, and this goes without saying: "Some angels choose fur instead of wings."
