It is a trademark trend in news organizations worldwide to compile a "Year in Review," which consists of the most, if not all, stories that hit the headlines.

This has been a tradition and a norm at the national broadcaster, nbc, and the face of the 2022 product is reporter Selima Henock.

We sat down with her to talk about her maiden journey into producing this program.

It is a daunting task that begins with searching the archive of the iNews system from one month to another, date by date, identifying stories that made headlines and other impactful events.

Henock accepted the task of condensing the news that aired on more than 300 days of the year.

In the newsroom, the award-winning reporter specializes in arts and community stories, but she's unlimited.

Henock took the task by the horn, and in this box are hundreds of tapes that she must sift through.

It took her about two months, working until the wee hours and only taking a week's break to attend her sibling's wedding.

She thanked her employer for providing a training ground and creating an environment that encourages learning on the job.

Asked what story pulled at her heartstrings, this is what she had to say.

"It was a backbreaking task to choose which story to include in the review from other competing pieces," she says.

Henock, who won awards for her journalism work, heaved a sigh of relief as she saw the end in sight.

She encouraged her peers across the national broadcaster's newsrooms that even though they work long hours and at times may feel unappreciated, what matters is that their work makes a huge impact on society.
