The SADC Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation has urged Namibian political actors and their supporters to act responsibly to secure a successful, calm, and peaceful election day and post-election period.
The Organ's chairperson and Tanzania's President, Samia Suluhu Hassan, says the region looks forward to electoral processes that adhere to democratic values.
She also calls for the upholding of the principles of the SADC Treaty, the SADC Protocol on Politics, Defense, and Security Cooperation, and the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.
In a statement issued, President Suluhu Hassan applauded Namibia's maintenance of an exemplary reputation of being a peaceful nation that upholds democratic principles and conducts peaceful elections across its regions with minor challenges.
She expressed confidence that Namibians would once again showcase the delivery of an election process founded on democratic principles and the SADC Principles and Guidelines, both on and in the aftermath of election day.
This year's elections are to decide on the country's next President and the 8th National Assembly MPs.
In line with the revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections, the region has deployed its Electoral Observation Mission to Namibia.
President Suluhu Hassan called on all Namibian eligible voters to participate in high numbers to vote and decide on the country's future leadership.
Namibia is the fifth SADC member state to head to polls this year, closing off the regional election cycle for 2024.
