A relatively low crime rate was recorded during the festive season in ||Kharas Region, with only 25 criminal cases registered by the police.

||Kharas Regional Police Crime Investigation Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Nicodemus Mbango, attributes this mainly to increased police visibility and community involvement.

Driving under the influence of alcohol is still a great concern that needs to be addressed in the region.

Deputy Commissioner Mbango says assault and grievous bodily harm (GBH) cases were also reported, although low compared to the previous years.

Most cases of assault and GBH took place at or near liquor outlets.

Only one case of housebreaking was reported at Karasburg, where about N$18,000 was stolen from a residential dwelling. The suspects remain at large.

At Keetmanshoop, a 28-year-old male suspect was arrested for the alleged rape of a 21-year-old female.

At Noordoewer, a person died on the spot after they were bumped by a truck.
