The Director General of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation, Stanley Similo, has urged Namibians to vote for Miss Namibia, Cassia Sharpley, who is competing in the Miss Universe pageant.
The Miss Universe competition is set to take place on Saturday in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the United States of America.
Urging people to vote for Miss Namibia, Similo says Sharpley stands a good chance of bringing the crown home.
"We implore people to go to the Miss Universe app, go there, and vote. They have a process in place to explain how many times you can vote, so the more we can do as a country, and even for those who have families who are not necessarily in Namibia, to do so."
In the meantime, the Miss Namibia pageant television show was nominated by the Africa Choice Awards 2022 as one of the best creatives for 2022, along with five other countries, including Nigeria.
The winner will be announced on January 15 this year.
Similo says it is not only about winning the beauty pageant for Miss Namibia, but also a way of growth for her to become more self-conscious about who she is in life.
"Remember the narrative before was that beauty pageants were just there for beautiful people, but that aspect has changed over the years; it is no longer just about beauty; it is about brains, and secondly, we believe that it is also a way we grow the girl child to become self-conscious about who she is, helping her to become a very strong woman.".
He says that the nbc takes its role very seriously by making sure that Miss Namibia is managed in the best interest of the public.
In addition, he says that Sharpley's participation in the Miss Universe pageant is not only for herself, as this will attract tourists and investors, among others, to Namibia.
Sharpley will be competing with 90 other candidates.
