Farmers have managed to contain a veld fire that broke out on Saturday afternoon in the Hardap Region at farm Kachas, situated about 15 kilometers west of Mariental.

Kobus Lombaardt, the owner of farm Kachas, told nbc News that farmers were able to put out the fire a few hours after it broke out in the dry riverbed of the Fish River.

He speculated that the veld fire was started by people who were allegedly catching fish illegally in the Fish River.

According to farmers, the damage to the farm's grazing land caused by the fire was minimal because farmers responded quickly in putting out the veld fire.
