Namibian African Students Association (NASA) is assisting students in the Kavango East Region on how to apply for fellowships through the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF).

The student movement has realized the challenges some students face during the application process.

Manfred Haingura, the Deputy Secretary of the student's association, was defrauded in 2021 when he applied but could not get the loan.

Haingura says to avoid such acts, NASA has been assisting learners to apply since last year.

"I, too, am a victim; I paid N$300 for an NSFAF application, and I got a random person who said, 'If you want to be helped, provide N$3,000, and I will assist you in applying for NSFAF.' After applying, I discovered that there was no application. You can be assisted by an organization, and then, at the end of applications, a lot of students did not get access to the application or access to apply, and they were left out."

The association uses their student laptops, which they obtained through a loan, to assist students with applications and the youth center's Wi-Fi.

Haingura says they were successful last year, and only those without the required full documents did not get a loan.

"For the students out there who did not apply, you are encouraged to come and be assisted because we don't want to hear someone has spent a lot of money, like in my case with what happened to me in 2021. We are doing it for free, and you are welcome to be helped."

So far, the movement has assisted 30 students, but Haingura says the slow network on some days is the only challenge they are facing.

Haingura says distance is not a limitation, as they are assisting students in Kavango West and as far away as Divundu in Kavango East via phone calls.

Students are advised to access their contact details on NASA's Facebook page, and directions will be given.
