Employees of the Namibian Institute of Mining and Technology have not received their salaries for December.

Workers held a countrywide demonstration to demand their salary payments.

At Arandis, workers marched from the shopping centre to one of the two campuses, at the town.

The employees are not only demanding their December salary which is usually paid late but also want contributions towards the medical aid and pension fund as well.

According to the workers' spokesperson Gibriel Wimmerth the non-payment or late payment of the members' contributions contravenes section 13 A of the pension funds act 1965 for which the employees reserve their right to report NIMT to Namfisa and ensure that NIMT's board of trustees is referred to the prosecutor general for prosecution.

NAPWU representative, Getrude Jameson expressed her frustration saying that it is unacceptable that Government has not yet honoured its payments to NIMT and is now costing the employees. She also called on the NTA and NSFAF to honour their payment towards NIMT so that the training institution can make good on the agreement with the employees.

The workers have vowed to take legal action if the funds are not paid into their bank accounts by Monday.
