About 48 fishermen employed by the Seaflower Corporation and the Seacope Corporation staged a demonstration protesting the alleged failure by management to pay their five months' outstanding salaries.
The employees are now calling on the Ministers of Fisheries and Marine Resources and of Finance to intervene in the matter.
The employees are describing the move not paying their salaries as a breach of contract of employment.
The alleged breach of contract by Seaflower White Fish Corporation and Seacope, they say, has resulted in their inability to pay institutions such as pension funds and social security.
The fishermen further lamented that they are unable to honor any of their financial obligations due to the situation.
The workers say they have lost faith in the management of Seaflowers Corporation and Seacope because they have refused to speak with them since the vessel stopped operating in March last year.
Paulus Hango the President of the Namibia Seaman and Allied Workers Union who called the situation unacceptable said companies often forget that the workers must come first because even the salaries of the management come from the work put in by the employees.
The petition was handed over to the Marine Superintendent, Louis Vaendwanaua, at the Ministry of Fisheries office, who promised to forward it to the relevant authorities.
CEO of Seaflower Corporation Clive Gawanab declined to comment on the matter.
