The Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Dr Peya Mushelenga has inaugurated the 1000th network tower at Okadhiya in the Oshana Region's Okatyali Constituency set up by the telecommunications giant MTC.
The latest tower is part of the 081Every1 project which MTC launched in 2017.
Mushelenga says the presence of the network tower at Okadhiya will expand coverage to under-served rural areas and symbolises the growth of ICT infrastructure in the country.
Mushelenga commended MTC for connecting the communities and in so doing bringing people closer and narrowing the information gap between urban and rural areas.
The minister further revealed that consultations are ongoing to implement the 5G network, to pave the way for the 4th Industrial Revolution and the opportunities it presents.
Also speaking at the same event, was MTC managing Director Dr Licky Erastus who said so far, the country has 90 percent coverage, and that the company aims to ensure that every Namibian has access to the network.
Some residents who attended the inauguration expressed their gratitude towards the government and MTC for the new tower and for making communication easier for them.
