UNFPA, the Office of the Governor and the Omaheke Regional Council handed over food parcels to marginalized communities in Gobabis.

This is part of the initiative by Governor Pijoo Nganate to curb malnutrition in the region.

Child malnutrition is linked to poverty, low levels of education and poor access to health services and a recent report by the World Bank estimates that 1,6 million Namibians live in poverty.

Two children died because of malnutrition in Gobabis recently.

It is in view of this that the Office of the Governor has been working on soliciting support from donor agencies such as UNFPA.

Ignatius Kariseb the Chairperson of the Omaheke Regional Council said that the people of Omaheke can't depend solely on donations.

Gift Malunga the UNFPA representative said statistics globally show that 20 000 girls under the age of 18 give birth every day.

Pijoo Nganate the Governor of Omaheke Region commended the inhabitants of Omaheke Region who are giving a helping hand to others.
