The Namibian Police Force has urged the public to be patient and allow for thorough investigations into the culpable homicide case involving the Inspector General, Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo.

This follows a social media post alleging a cover-up in the investigation of the accident involving Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo, which occurred in the northern region in late December.

Three people died during the accident.

A case of culpable homicide or reckless or negligent driving was immediately opened on the day of the incident.

In a media statement, the police say the investigation into the matter is currently underway.

Once the investigation is complete, the case docket will be submitted to the Prosecutor General for consideration on whether to prosecute or not.

In the event a decision to prosecute is made, the particular matter will be taken through the court process, the statement says.

NamPol further reassured the public that the police are an institution that is constitutionally established and mandated and will not be influenced by individuals.
