The Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation, Utoni Nujoma, has given instructions to dispatch a team to Rundu to investigate the alleged beating of employees in exchange for loans.

"Just in the morning, we were greeted with news in the local media reporting a Rundu employer beating up employees for loans. This employer is allegedly beating employees on the buttocks whenever they want to borrow money from him. The ministry condemns such actions by employers in the strongest terms. As we are all aware, in 2020, Namibia ratified the ILO Convention, which accords everyone the right to be free from violence and harassment in the world of work. This convention accords everyone the right to be free from violence and harassment, which includes bullying, undue stress, discrimination, and sexual harassment. In this regard, I call on the Labor Inspectorate's structures to immediately dispatch an inspection team to get to the bottom of these allegations and take appropriate action."

This came about after a video clip was circulated on social media along with a local newspaper report, which showed the employer beating one of his workers with a stick while others cheered on.
