Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Minister Lucia Iipumbu has paid tribute to all essential workers doing duty this festive season.

Farmers in the northern regions of Namibia are taking advantage of the current rainfall to begin ploughing and planting their fields, aiming to maximise harvests and improve food security after previous dry spells. 

Christmas came early to some families from the Aus settlement in the ||Kharas Region after they received keys for their new houses. 

The houses were constructed under the Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia's (SDFN) housing programme. 

Namibia has recorded a sharp increase in serious crimes during the 2024/2025 festive season, with cases increasing by 114%. 

Between November and December 2025, reported criminal incidents climbed from 1,261 cases in the previous year to 2,702 cases.

Namibia recorded 488 road fatalities between 01 January and 14 December 2025, representing a 20% increase compared to the same period last year.

3,126 crashes were recorded, a 4.2% increase compared to the previous year. However, 5,111 injuries were reported, marking a 1.8% decline.
