Hockey development programme enables regional roll-out

The Namibia Hockey Union recently conducted coaching clinics in Oshana Region. The events in the northern part of the country were attended by 80 junior hockey players from schools in Ongwediva. Bank Windhoek donated the equipment to the participating institutions. Since 2015, NHU and Bank Windhoek have been on a mission to re-introduce hockey to all the regions in Namibia. So far the following regions benefitted from this approach: Khomas, //Karas, Hardap, Kavango West, Zambezi and Oshana. Outjo in the Kunene region and Otjiwarongo in the Otjozondjupa region will soon complete the list of regions that this development programme will visit. Later this year, the first ever Bank Windhoek Junior Hockey Development Tournament will take place on 5-6 October 2018 in Windhoek, with regions requested to play leagues at u12 levels in order to prepare their players for this developmental milestone. Close to 560 new Hockey players have been introduced to Hockey since the inception of this programme in 2015 and at least 40 coaches have been involved.
