NSSU happy with Sport Act Review

By: Wesley Vries The Namibia Schools Sports Union has voiced its delight over the deliberations that took place during the sport act review this past weekend. The review saw administrators from various sport bodies, federations and the Namibia Sports Commission propose amendments to the sport act of 2003. According to the national coordinator of the NSSU, Solly Duiker, the workshop discussed - among other things - the responsibilities of the different stakeholders, while it also looked at the responsibilities of the Namibia Sports Commission. Duiker was particularly happy with the way the participants took on the discussions. And while the final recommendations will still have a long way to go before they are being implemented, Duiker believes it’s a positive start for sport in the country. Workshop participants agreed that no sport body or federation will be allowed to travel outside the country without the permission of the Namibia Sports Commission. Alongside other tasks, the NSSU is responsible for sending teams to compete in the Confederation of Schools Sport Associations of Southern Africa, COSSASA competitions and others. NBC Sport went to find out how NSSU will benefit from the proposed amendments to the sport act. “ We are grateful of the new direction the new act will get into because they will also see funding from government at all intities in Namibia. So yes ten years from now the NSSU will be much better off, of where we are coming from currently.” NSSU has recently put grassroots development on the top of their agenda to nurture the next generation of sport stars.
