Rubinstein open chess championships attract young and old

Windhoek-Chess players from various clubs and academies competed in the Rubinstein Open Chess Championships held in Windhoek on Saturday. The event offered entry to participants from all walks of life as a gesture from the coach of the academy, Isreal Shilongo, who celebrated his birthday on the day of the championships. “ It's quite an achievement to have such a large group taking part in the tournament, where you have young kids who are four years old the oldest who is forty years old competing together. It's the first time that we are hosting this tournament and from this year on going forward, it will be an annual tournament. We hope to increase the numbers and have more Chess players coming through to see what we all about and promote the game of Chess”Iseal said It also provided chess players with an opportunity to square up against Namibia's recently crowned African champion, eight-year-old Ottilie Hinda. Overall, those who took part, considered the event to be a great success.
