Shilongo Botes signs for Platimum Stars

By: Lesley Tjiueza The COSAFA Castle cup has brought some good omen for Namibian footballers with Henrico Botes and Benson Shilongo signing contracts with South African Premier Soccer League Platinum Stars on Wednesday afternoon. Shilongo was previously contracted to Botswana’s Gaborone United for three years a stint which has now come to an end, paving way for a new 2 year contact with the Phokeng club. The 24-year old striker told Nampa on Wednesday he was delighted to sign for the Phokeng-based club and his journey as a footballer will continue to grow in the North-West Province of South Africa. “I have signed a pre-contract with Platinum Stars and my official contract will start on 01 August 2016. I will be plying my trade in the PSL going forward, and I am excited about the opportunity and looking forward to growing as a player,” he said. The Namibian could not reveal the details about his contract with his new club. “I am not going to change my football style that brought me here, unless I will be given certain instructions on what to do and where to improve my game as I’m still an unfinished product and I still need to be nurtured.” “It’s going to be a challenging and exciting journey but I will just have to settle in quickly with the team, which won’t be tough as I am a professional,” said Shilongo. Shilongo played with Namibian clubs Oshakati City, Ramblers and Tigers FC as well as South African lower division side Blackburn Rovers before moving to Botswana. He was one of the top goal scorers at the Council of Southern African Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup when Namibia won it in South Africa in 2015. Meanwhile, experienced Namibian striker Henrico Botes also signed a contract with Platinum Stars. He has played for Bidvest Wits since 2014.
