Sports Commission appoints preparatory committee for Sport Expo

Windhoek-The Namibia Sports Commission, in consultation with the Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service Erastus Uutoni, this week announced the appointment of members of the Preparatory Committee of the first-ever Namibia Annual Sports Expo, which is to be held next year. A team of fifteen committee members and three co-opted members were selected as they prepare to bring the first-ever Sport Expo to Namibia. The expo aims at making history in sports. Minister Uutoni explained to the people of Namibia why the Sport Expo had to be launched and what its benefits entail. “ I'm saying, the Sport Expo is about sport development. You who make it will satisfy the needs of Namibians. I'm also saying the Sport Expo is about sport development. When I visited the regions, I looked at how things have been neglected. It's about youth development. You can create jobs through sport, you can develop youth through sport. It's a job creation, because when you have an expo, you are expecting young people to come together and they should have their product they want to sell. Of course we are generating income and also they are getting something” Uutoni said. Appointed as one of the committee members, Freddy Mwiya, Chief Administrator of the Namibia Sports Commission, explained how the committee views the task given to them. “We are given a very big assignment, which I believe we are going to perform through our mandate. We are a group of experts with knowledge coming from various regions and by having this type of people I believe we are to deliver our mandate. ” Mwiya said. Uutoni has urged the people of Namibia and the youth in particular to get involved and come up with creative sport ideas for the expo. He also led by example by giving N$ 2 000 from his pocket to add on to the vision's finances.
