Sports Commission recognizes NFA Ad-hoc Committee

The Namibia Sports Commission, as the custodian of sports in Namibia, called for a meeting, with the NFA as the commission’s affiliate to deliberate on the matter between the Namibia Football Association (NFA) and Namibian Premier League (NPL). The meeting was organised with the main intention to establish the legality of the NFA’s decision to nullify the NPL interim committee, according to a press release issued on 05 May 2017. The press release stated that the dismissal of the NPL interim committee caused contention among soccer fans, sponsors and players. Due to this prolonged disagreement between the NFA and NPL, the NSC called for a meeting with its affiliate. In an emergency committee meeting held on the 28th of last month, the NFA dismissed the NPL interim committee which was chaired by Cosmos Franco and appointed an Ad-hoc committee chaired by Roger Kambatuku, the Chairman of NFA’s Competitions and deputized by Franco Cosmos, with other members being Nana Tjombe, Evaristus Evaristus, Ranga Haikali and Victor Amunyela. The Adhoc Committee was appointed with two main responsibilities, which were to ensure that everything possible was done for the league to start on the 12th May 2017. And secondly to start with a normalisation process, which will culminate in the election of a substantive Executive Committee for the NPL in the shortest period possible. The press statement indicated that the Namibia Sports Commission validates the legitimacy of nullifying the interim Committee by NFA and approves the legitimacy of the ad-hoc Committee as appointed by NFA to carry on with the mandate given to them by the mother body of football in this country. The decision, according to the statement was supported by the statutes of the mother body NFA and relevant information obtained. In attendance were NFA president Frans Mbidi, the two Vice Presidents Naftali Ngalangi, Ludwig Nunubeb , the Secretary General of NFA Barry Rukoro, the Honorary president John Muinjo , the Honorary Vice president Viskaya Amutenya and executive committee member Roger Kambatuku. Other officials were also present. The Commission thanked the NFA for willingly attending the meeting and for having responded to requests and questions. All other issues will be released in due course.
