Third edition of Standard Bank Super Cup gets underway

MARTIN UKARERANI The third edition of the Standard Bank Super Cup was launched yesterday morning at Football House in Windhoek. Following the two previous editions of the cup, where Black Africa beat African Stars 3-2 in 2014 and African Stars defeated Tigers 1- 0 last year, Standard Bank Namibia once again presented a N$1 million cheque to get preparations underway. At the occasion, the CEO of Standard Bank Namibia, Vetumbuavi Mungunda, said they have been happy about their involvement in football for the past two years, even though their contract will end this year. In the absence of a NFA Cup last year, it was decided that this year's Super Cup will have play offs for the teams that came 2,3,4 and 5th in the league. They will play against each other and the winners will face league winners Tigers. The four teams are Black Africa, Tura Magic, African Stars and Mighty Gunners. The play-offs will take place on the 13th of August at Sam Nujoma Stadium, starting from 11h00. Namibia Football Association Secretary General Barry Rukoro thanked Standard Bank and others who invest in football and urged them to continue making a difference in young people’s lives. The Standard Bank Super Cup will take place on the 10th of September in Windhoek and the winning team will receive 500-thousand Namibia dollars, with the runners-up getting 200-thousand Namibia Dollars.
