Tobias deals a blow to Indongo’s career

While many Namibians are excited by Julius Indongo’s temporary training move to the United States of America, there is a new twist in the story. Indongo and his former promoter Nestor Tobias appear to not have parted on good terms and this may now lead to severe consequences. The former unified junior welterweight champion Indongo recently relocated to Omaha, Nebraska in hope of taking his professional career to the next level. The lanky Namibian boxer, who is also known as “The Blue Machine” signed with Lou DiBella promotions earlier this year and is reportedly responding well to the new techniques taught by Coach Larry E. Brown. But while things are seemingly going well for Indongo, Nestor Tobias of the MTC Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy has unfinished business with The Blue Machine. Tobias, through his lawyer Sisa Namandje, wrote a letter to Katjaerua Legal Practitioners - representing Julius Indongo - yesterday and demanded that the former triple world champion should avail himself as contracted by Tobias. According to the letter seen by the NBC Sports Desk, Tobias is claiming that Indongo's contract – which will end on the 5th of February - will be automatically extended, provided that certain events set out under the contract have occurred. The letter also states that if Indongo is not tendering performance on or before the 5th of February 2018, Tobias lawyers will proceed by giving notice to claim compensation in the amount of N$3.6 million. While the legal exchange is ongoing, Indongo has asked his former mentor and supervisor Kenneth Muatara for advice. “I have advised Julius Indongo to contact the Namibia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Control Board to act on this matter, and hopefully we will take it from there. As it stands, the board has not received complaints from either Tobias or Indongo. Hopefully Indongo will write to the boxing board and we will then get proper advice from that office” Muatara told NBC. Indongo himself, who confirmed receiving the letter from Tobias lawyer, says the new twist has already affected his training process, as he will not be able to fight until this issue has been sorted out. When contacted for comment, Nestor Tobias told NBC Sport that he was in a meeting. He had not responded to the Desk by the time this story was published.
