Namibia’s Tyson Ushona is set to defend his World Boxing Federation’s welterweighttitle against Roman Belaev from Russia on the first of next month. The bout was announced this morning at a packed press conference in Windhoek. Those in attendance were asked to adhere to a minute of silence in remembering Namibian liberation icon, Andimba Toivo ya Toivo, who died last Friday, before proceeding with the programme. Salute Boxing Academy announced that Tyson Ushona, who won the WBF World title in December last year after successfully beating Poland's Rafal Jackiewitz on points, will now face Roman Belaev from Russia. On paper, the 35-year-old Ushona is more experienced than his opponent, winning 35 fights out of his 41, while also recording one draw and five losses. Belaev is 27 years old and boasts a record of 18 fights, 16 wins and two losses. According to the world champion, his camp is more than ready to defend the title. "I have been long prepared, because I know that this day would come and we are ready. I will dedicate the fight to the late Toivo ya Toivo," Ushona added. The boxing bonanza’s theme is Defending My National Pride and will be featuring 8 bouts, with Lukas Ndafoluma taking on Barend van Rooyen from South Africa in the vacant Middleweight IBO All Africa Title. Ndafoluma promised fire in the ring . "We are ready. I am fit and at my level best shape, thanks to my good trainers," he added. Salute Boxing Academy recently partnered with the Khomas Regional Forum of Nationhood and National Pride Campaign to address social ills such as tribalism, racism, vandalism, crime, gender-based violence and lack of respect towards national symbols. Defending my National Pride is slated for 1st of July and will take place at Ramatex in Windhoek
