The Hardap Regional Governor, Riaan McNab, has appointed 35 members to the Regional Disaster Risk Management Committee (RDRMC), aimed at strengthening the region's readiness for natural disasters.

Following last year's wildfire in Etosha National Park, little evidence remains in certain areas. Core visitor areas stayed unaffected after the fire raged toward the end of September.

Namibia says it needs roughly US$15 billion to meet its climate goals, while Indonesia warns that today’s disasters are “not only natural” but increasingly driven by human actions. 

Communities are being urged to devise mechanisms to mitigate natural disasters such as floods and droughts.

This call was made by the Director for Risk Management in the Office of the Prime Minister, Hellen Likando, at the closing of the recently concluded induction workshop for regional governors.

The United Nations (UN) could look into providing Namibia with expertise to be able to deal with the impact of drought and other natural disasters.

There has been a significant contribution from the agriculture sector to Gross Domestic Product over the past years.

This was said by the Minister of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, Carl Schlettwein when he addressed his staff and stakeholders.
