Festive season amplifies daily challenges homeless people endure

Breadcrumb

For many homeless individuals, Christmas is just another difficult day.

The holiday season can be particularly difficult for them, as they are often faced with loneliness and hunger.

Little is left for them as they rummage through the bins because people have gone away for holidays.

As the city becomes quieter, the homeless population continues to beg on the streets, but they feel even more isolated and vulnerable.

There are organisations and shelters in Windhoek that strive to provide some comfort and support to the homeless during Christmas.

President Hage Geingob has conferred a state funeral on the late liberation struggle stalwart, Hilde Kapitaholo Amunyela.

Amunyela died on the 25th of January, aged 89.

President Geingob in his message of condolence said that Amunyela will be remembered for her immense contribution to the liberation struggle of Namibia and her resistance to the apartheid regime.

Amunyela's voluntary contribution to the fight for freedom, Geingob says, subjected her to inhumane treatment by apartheid forces but she remained firm to liberate her motherland.
