President Hage Geingob has conferred a state funeral on the late liberation struggle stalwart, Hilde Kapitaholo Amunyela.

Amunyela died on the 25th of January, aged 89.

President Geingob in his message of condolence said that Amunyela will be remembered for her immense contribution to the liberation struggle of Namibia and her resistance to the apartheid regime.

Amunyela's voluntary contribution to the fight for freedom, Geingob says, subjected her to inhumane treatment by apartheid forces but she remained firm to liberate her motherland.

Dr. Geingob described Amunyela's pivotal role in the early political mobilization of the Namibians and her heroic support of the PLAN Combatants in the armed struggle as outstanding.

The remains of the late Amunyela will be interred at a date and place to be agreed on in consultation with the family.
