Family and Osino Resources at loggerheads over graves

Mining company Osino Resources has started digging up the remains of people buried at its site, situated about 10km outside Karibib on Okawayo Farm, to enable gold mining activities to kick off.

The relatives of those buried there were, however, brokenhearted, as they were not invited to witness the exhumation process.

Canadian-based mining company Osino Resources owns the Twin Hill Gold Project.

However, on the farm lie four graves that are older than 50 years and belong to the Auxab family.

Family of residents at Altersheim Retirement Village urged to visit

The Altersheim Retirement Village in Otjiwarongo is encouraging family and friends of its residents to visit them as often as possible.

The Retirement Village cares for elderly residents and assists them with all their needs.

The elders are kept busy in an artistic way, usually sitting near the fish pond and painting.

They also do gardening, attend church services, and read books in the hallway.

However, the attention and care that elders receive at retirement villages cannot be compared to that which can be offered by their family members. 

Recognition of Felix Muraghuli as Hompa welcomes grievances

The recognition of  Felix Muraghuli as Hompa for the Gciriku Community has stirred discontent among some members of the royal family.

While one faction is urging the Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Erastus Uutoni, to reconsider his decision, another faction has opted to pursue legal action.

Since the death of Kassian Shiyambi in 2019, the Gciriku People have been without a Hompa.

The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development announced Murauli's recognition as Hompa for the Gciriku Community in a letter issued last week.

Family of hit-and-run victim distraught

An aunt of a 14-year-old girl who was killed in a hit-and-run accident at DRC Swakopmund says that the death has shattered her family's hope for a bright future.

The teenager, Theopolina Iyambo, was killed on Sunday morning after an unlicensed driver bumped into her and left her for dead.

Theopolina Iyambo died a few minutes after her aunt sent her to run errands at the DRC informal settlement.

An unlicensed driver employed by a carwash bumped her while she was riding a bicycle, and her body was lying in a pool of blood on the side of the road.

Family at Swakopmund accuses police of brutality and neglect

A family from the Erongo Region is seeking justice from the police, whom they accuse of brutality.

The father of a mentally and physically disabled man in Swakopmund has expressed his utter dissatisfaction with the police for failing to perform up to expected standards when they dealt with his child.

Gideon Doeseb accuses the police of being responsible for his son's physical disability by hitting him with a vehicle.

Doeseb explains that his son was discovered to be mentally ill, and during an outburst, police were called to escort him to the hospital.

Katutura Central family left destitute after house struck by lightning

A house in the Katutura Central Constituency caught fire after it was struck by lightning last night.

Rain in Windhoek has brought relief to many but to some, it has caused distress.

The lightning struck a house on Philip Turimei Street and burnt down all belongings in the first room leaving the tenant in the house with nothing.
