Senior government officials continue to pay tribute to NBC's former long-serving employee Lamech Mwanyangapo, who died last week on Saturday aged 61.

Some of those who visited the family include the Speaker of the National Assembly, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and ICT Minister Emma Theofelus.

Theofelus recalled a meeting with the late Mwanyangapo while on duty at the Day of the African Child.

“Therefore, from the Minister of ICT, we offer our sincerest condolences to you, Mimeleina, the children, the family, friends and comrades of the late Lamech. And I'm sure that we can all feel his absence. Personally, I met the Islamic community 20 years ago. I might seem very young, Pastor Bryant, but I did. I met the Islamic when I was 10.”

Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said the late Mwanyangapo's work at the national broadcaster reflected the same character he displayed in his everyday interactions.

“We had a person who was a people’s person, you know, a person who—and I watched you on TV, these videos that they are showing after his departure—a person who was strong, spiritual and highly regarded, you know, a person who was committed to saving others, always putting his needs behind those of others. That’s how I know Lamech.”

Others who signed the book of condolence earlier are current and former ministers, Swapo Party Secretary-General Sofia Shaningwa and Chief Justice Peter Shivute.

Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare also visited the family.

Mwanyangapo is being remembered for his long service and contribution to the national broadcaster and the media industry.

His memorial service is slated for tomorrow at 14H00 at Inner-City Lutheran Congregation in Windhoek.
