Magistrates appear to be back at work following a week-long "go-slow", although operations are still moving at a slow pace, according to judiciary sources. 

Court proceedings across the country came to a standstill on Wednesday morning, as magistrates began a strike, leaving accused persons, lawyers, and prosecutors waiting in courtrooms with no presiding officers.

Justice Lotta Ambunda took her oath as a permanent judge of the High Court this morning. 

At 38 years old, Ambunda is the youngest High Court Judge on the bench.

Namibia's judiciary has partnered with the United States Pepperdine University to train judges, lawyers, and mediators on strengthening capacity for the implementation of plea bargaining in the criminal justice system and to expand knowledge and skills in commercial mediation for civil matters. 

Magistrate Linus Samunzala has denied bail to all bail applicants in the NAMCOR proceedings.

The applicants include Immanuel Mulunga, Peter Elindi, Malakia Elindi, Olivia Dunaiski, Jennifer Hamukwaya, and Leo Nandago.

Former Acting High Court Judge Moses Chinhengo died at his home in Masvingo, Zimbabwe. His death was announced in a statement by the Judicial Service Commission of Namibia.

The family of the late former Zambian President Edgar Lungu has asked the Supreme Court of Appeal to overturn the Pretoria High Court decision to deny them permission to appeal against the earlier lower court ruling over the repatriation of the body.

Advocate Natasha Bassingthwaighte was sworn in as an Acting Judge of the High Court of Namibia on Tuesday, 16 September 2025.

The ceremony, held in the A-Court of the High Court, was presided over by Judge President Petrus Damaseb.

Namibia's success in resolving conflicts outside the formal court system has set an important precedent.
