Swakopmund mayoral development fund aids schools

The Swakopmund Municipality, through the Mayoral Development Fund, has donated N$200,000 to all schools in Swakopmund.

Mayor Dina Namubes believes education is an important tool to eradicate poverty.

The donation was handed over at a ceremony attended by all the beneficiary schools.

Swakopmund has 20 public and private schools.

Over the year, the Mayoral Fund donated N$1,000 to each of the schools, which is to become an annual contribution to the awarding of the best performers.

Constituency Development Fund to soon be tabled in the National Assembly

The bill to establish the Constituency Development Fund will soon be tabled in the National Assembly for deliberation and possible adoption.

This was announced by the Minister of Urban and Rural Development Minister, Erastus Uutoni when responding to a question by PDM MP Inna Hengari regarding recent land-grabbing incidents in Okakarara town. 

He highlighted that if the CDF is enacted, it will effectively address numerous challenges faced by local authorities, constituencies, and regions as a whole.

Kavango farmers' unions call for speedy implementation of EDF11

The Kavango East and Kavango West farmers' unions have called for speedy implementation of the 11th European Development Fund Livestock Support Project in the northern communal areas.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform is the implementing agent for the project meant to improve livestock marketing north of the Red Line.

The farmers' unions made the call at a media conference at Rundu, saying they face numerous challenges that hamper the development of the livestock production sector.

PDM President proposes a special fund to assist flood victims

The president of the Popular Democratic Movement, McHenry Venaani, has called for the establishment of a special fund to assist flood victims in the northern parts of the country.

Venaani tabled and motivated a motion in the National Assembly appealing for help for the population affected by the floods.

While appreciating the N$72 million set aside to assist the affected residents, Venaani says there must be a special fund tailor-made for such eventualities.
