The president of the Popular Democratic Movement, McHenry Venaani, has called for the establishment of a special fund to assist flood victims in the northern parts of the country.

Venaani tabled and motivated a motion in the National Assembly appealing for help for the population affected by the floods.

While appreciating the N$72 million set aside to assist the affected residents, Venaani says there must be a special fund tailor-made for such eventualities.

The official opposition leader says that many farmers' crops have been destroyed and their homes have been damaged, while over 3,000 learners have been forced to miss school.

Venaani emphasized that the fast-changing global weather phenomena caused by climate change are likely to recur, necessitating a long-term solution.

Labor, Industrial Relations, and Employment Creation Minister Utoni Nujoma said the government is doing its best to assist the victims.

He did, however, blame some victims' sufferings and effects on people who live in flood-prone areas despite knowing they are at risk.
